The Working Frame
Claude or ChatGPT can do the whole edit for you: cut your clips to a song, add captions in your own style, loop the music and export a file ready to post. Here is the workflow, the prompts to copy, and where it still needs you.

Most advice about editing video with AI sends you to a pile of other apps: one to cut, one to caption, one to clean up the sound, one to export. That is a lot of tabs for a 20-second reel. And if you have ever opened a video editor for the first time, you know the real cost is not the money. It is the hour you lose finding the button.
You can skip most of it. Give Claude (or ChatGPT) your clips and a song, and it can do the whole edit itself: the cut, the captions, the music and the export. You describe the video in plain English. You fix anything that is off the same way, by saying what is wrong. You do not need Adobe, Descript or Higgsfield for this.
What you need
Three to six clips, trimmed to about 7 to 10 seconds each (step 1 below does the trimming).
A song you have the right to use.
Your Style Kit, so the captions match your look. If you have not made one yet, you can still follow along: one line about who the video is for will do.
Claude or ChatGPT.
Step 1: Trim long clips first
Long clips are the most common reason an AI edit comes out flat. If you hand over a three-minute recording, the AI has to guess which ten seconds matter. Ask it to choose, and to show its working before it builds anything.
Copy and paste, with your clips attached:
Trim each of these clips to its best [7 TO 10] seconds. List what you kept from each one before you build anything.
Read the list. If it kept the wrong moment, say so now: "In clip 2, keep the bit where I turn round instead." It is far quicker to correct a list than a finished video.
Step 2: Choose how to cut
There are two ways to cut, and the right one depends on your footage.
Cut by the music. Upload the song and your clips and ask the AI to cut each shot to the beat. This suits montages, travel, sport, anything visual.
Cut by the footage. If someone is talking to camera, or something is happening on screen, cut on what is said or what moves instead of on the beat.
Step 3: Make the video
Attach your trimmed clips and the song, then paste this, filling in the square brackets:
I've attached [NUMBER] clips from [WHAT YOU FILMED] and a song. Make a [LENGTH] second vertical reel, cut to the beat. Write it for the audience in my Style Kit. Start the song on [LINE OF THE LYRIC], open with my strongest moment and loop the song cleanly back to the start. Keep the clips' own sound clear and the music about 12 to 18 dB under any speech. If anyone speaks, add captions in my Style Kit, using the caption rules there, a few words at a time inside the safe zone. Export 9:16, 1080 by 1920, 30 frames a second, H.264 MP4. Tell me anything you couldn't do.
No Style Kit yet? Swap "the audience in my Style Kit" for one line on who the video is for.
If you would rather cut on the footage than the beat, change "cut to the beat" to "cut on what is said" or "cut on the movement". If the AI is unsure about anything, you can add: "Ask me anything you are unsure of before you start."
A few things in that prompt are doing real work:
"Start the song on [LINE OF THE LYRIC]" tells it where in the track to begin, so the video does not open on a long intro.
"Open with my strongest moment" gets the first second right, which is the part viewers decide on.
"Loop the song cleanly" means the end joins the start without a jump, so the reel repeats smoothly.
The 12 to 18 dB rule keeps the music underneath anyone speaking.
"Tell me anything you couldn't do" makes it list the gaps instead of quietly skipping them.
Step 4: Fix it in plain English
Do not start again. Say what is wrong and name the time.
The cut lands late: "Move the cut to the beat at 0:12."
The end went off: "Redo the end bit from 0:14 and cut it to the beat."
It starts on the wrong part of the song: "Start the first clip on the line [LYRIC]."
The loop has a jump: ask it to redo the end of the song so it joins the start cleanly.
The captions sit under Instagram's buttons: "Move the captions inside the safe zone."
The safe zone is the part of the screen Instagram does not cover with its own buttons. Keep words out of the top 14%, the bottom 35% and 6% down each side.
Step 5: Export it properly
If your first prompt did not already include the export, ask for it:
Export 9:16, 1080 by 1920, 30 frames a second, H.264 MP4, at the highest quality. Keep the sound exactly as it is. Tell me anything you couldn't do.
Then ask it to check its own work:
Check this exported reel [UPLOAD] against: 1080 by 1920, 9:16, 30fps, H.264 MP4, nothing important in the top 14%, bottom 35% or 6% down each side, and sound in time. List anything wrong and how to fix it.
What good looks like
It opens on your strongest moment.
The cuts land on the beat.
The song loops without a jump.
The captions are easy to read on a phone, and clear of the buttons.
Speech sits clearly above the music.
What goes wrong, and the fix
The cut lands late: Name the time: "Move the cut to the beat at 0:12."
The ending feels off: "Redo the end bit from 0:14 and cut it to the beat."
Wrong part of the song: "Start the first clip on the line [LYRIC]."
It picked a dull moment from a long clip: Go back to step 1 and tell it which moment to keep.
Soft or blurry once posted: Turn on upload at highest quality, and move the file by AirDrop or cloud storage, not a messaging app.
Blocky dark areas: Less grain, higher bitrate.
Captions under the buttons: Ask for them inside the safe zone and export again.
Where it still needs you
Check every export. Play it all the way through on your phone. Check the end and the loop, check the captions sit clear of the buttons, and check they say what was actually said. Claude cannot hear your finished file, so loudness is your call: play it on headphones and on your phone speaker.
It cannot fix bad footage. Shaky, dark or badly framed clips come out as a shorter version of the same problem. The edit is only as good as what you shot.
It cannot always judge your strongest clip. If the opening is wrong, tell it which clip to open on.
Moments with no speech need timestamps. If your video is a goal, a sunset or coffee being poured, there is no transcript for the AI to lean on. Give it the times of the moments you want, for example "use 0:04 to 0:09 from the second clip," and let it handle the rest.
Check it once it is posted. Claude cannot see how Instagram will compress your video, so look at it on your phone after it goes live.
Optional extras
Everything above works in Claude or ChatGPT alone. If you already use other tools, a few can sit alongside: Adobe's connector for quick cuts and resizing, Descript for editing talking videos by their transcript, and Higgsfield for upscaling or reframing a single clip. They are extras for specific jobs, not a requirement for making a finished reel.
AI for Creators
If you would rather have the prompts, the cheat sheet and the checks already set up, that is what AI for Creators is for: the Skool group with prompts, assets and systems for making content with AI, your Style Kit so everything comes out in your own look, and lessons tested in Claude and ChatGPT, with new trending lessons every week. The Make a video in AI lesson in Free Week takes you through exactly this edit, from clips and a song to a finished 9:16 reel, with the two-page cheat sheet to go with it.
Prompts, assets and systems for making content with AI. New lessons every week, always including what’s trending.
